In popular culture and propaganda true life is considered secondary to fictional reality. Here we are not talking about mimesis, because in mass rituals of self-creation and self-sufficiency, utopian versions of reality are created, that is, "life itself". In popular culture, second reality obscures the first, so that imitation turns inside out: life must imitate an ideological fiction. This inverted mimesis is the secular mystical essence of such phenomena of mass culture as fashion, sports, etc.
